IRS to Implement CADE 2: Releasing Most Refunds in 5 Days

Over the past several years, the IRS has processed a small number of all tax returns through its new   processing system called CADE. This new system is designed to release refunds more quickly.

The IRS plans to implement CADE 2 this month. Under this initiative, up to 75% of all returns are           expected to be processed under this new system, up to double the number processed under CADE last year. This change will finally set the stage for all returns to be moved to the new system.

Bank products released under the CADE system are typically released in as few as 5 to 7 business days of the IRS receiving the tax return. This is much faster from the traditional 9 to 14 days. With the FDIC instructing all banks to discontinue RALs (Refund Anticipation Loans), this will be a boost for taxpayers who need their refunds quickly.

As in the past, we offer IRS mailed checks and direct deposit as a means to receive your refund. However, taxpayers who have no funds to pay up front should find even more value in bank products such as Warren Tax Service now provides.. Electronic Refund Checks (ERCs) written in our office and Electronic Refund Deposits (ERDs) deposited to your bank account.. These two bank options provide a secure mechanism to receive your refund proceeds and easily pay for tax preparation services with no out-of-pocket expenses.

  1. Well, the IRS certainly outdid itself this time. Refunds accepted on January 17th are showing February 7th to be released………..

  2. I know what you mean. If it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it! Right? We have been doing taxes for almost 20 years and this is first to see for us. In an email alert from IRS today, they say…

“The one-week delay for some refunds relates to fine-tuning IRS systems to adjust for new safeguards put in place this tax season to provide stronger protection against refund fraud. The IRS is providing additional screening for fraud this year before issuing refunds, but the vast majority of taxpayers can still continue to expect to receive their refunds in a timely fashion.”

The delay in refunds this week is for those returns accepted from January 17 – January 25th. Supposedly, those who file after this will have no problem.

The returns this year are being processed through two systems.. the new quicker system and the old legacy system. With the new one, refunds can be received within days and are received any day of the week. With the old system, refunds are still issued on a weekly basis. Going by the IRS Refund Cycle Chart, these are received on Wednesdays. However, most of our clients receiving direct deposits have received them today (Thursday)… go figure..

Hopefully, IRS will get through its “growing pains” and get the show on the road!
